Julie Baker is an artist who lives near the Cathedral City of Ely in the Fens of Cambridgeshire. She paints the countryside around her, a subject she knows well, focusing on the massive skies and powerful, ever-changing landscape of the Fens.
Julie started as a textile artist producing hand dyed, richly stitched silk and velvet hangings. She then completed the Open College of the Arts Painting Course and painting became her main focus. She uses oils on board or canvas, in her studio, working up ideas gathered whilst out walking through the fields and wetlands of the Fens.
